Marjan Vrankulj
1962: Born August 23rd in Split, Croatia
1983: Enrolls at Zagreb University, in Agronomy
1984: Leaves for Belgium and enrolls at
Herentals Academy, where he studies Engraving and
Illustration
1985: Returns to Croatia to study Fine Arts
Education and Art History at Split University
1987: Goes back to Belgium and enrolls at Brussels’
renown Ecole nationale supérieure des arts visuels (ENSAV)
of La Cambre for a five-year Engraving and Illustration
course with Professor Marchoul
-During his studies at Cambers, Marjan creates puppets and
performs puppet shows at the "Theatre de Toone"
-He also learns restoration techniques with his wife Cécile,
a professional restorer
-Marjan occasionally works on film sets as an assistant
decorator. A musician at heart, he also loves to accompany
various bands on stage at café concerts
1994: Marjan creates his first prototype of luminous
objects and soon presents his first exhibitions, at his
place or in friends’ apartments
2000: Beginning of a collaboration with Brussels’
studio Bigordie, which will support him in his creative
process
2005: Marjan takes a much larger work space and,
with the help of an assistant, he develops increasingly
creative and bold new projects in terms of space and
sculpture
2008: Marjan holds more and more exhibitions in
galleries and unconventional spaces in major Belgian
cities
